Everything you need

Three uniquely-designed ecologically-friendly lodges set along the banks of the River Tees in Teesdale - one of the least-discovered parts of England. Designed and built by ourselves, the lodges are larch-clad, have meadow roofs that change with the seasons, and underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove to keep you toasty and cosy. There are even hot tubs where you can sit and watch the stars go by.

Have a look around

We thought it might help to have a little fly around the lodges to see how they sit within the countryside, how they overlook the River Tees and give you an impression of the immediate area, the river with it's abandoned railway bridges and river walks and the lodges' proximity to the village of Gainford.

" Had a gorgeous stay here just before the second lockdown was announced. The lodge we stayed in was perfect with amazing views from the hot tub. It really is such a little gem and we absolutely loved it. Thank you for being so welcoming. Bill was a fantastic host and very informative, giving us some great recommendations."

"Just returned from a 4 night break. What a lovely warm welcome we received from Bill when we arrived at our lodge. The pre sent instructions ensured finding the lodge and gaining entry was easy and relaxed. On entering the lodge music had been selected, there was a welcome basket with lovely touches such as a bottle of bubbly, 🍾. The lodge was very clean housing a good selection of utensils, equipment and good quality bedding, towels and furniture. There was a basket of logs to get you up and running and it didnt take long to warm up. The weather didnt stop us going in the very welcoming hot tub. The views from the lodge were excellent, nothing but trees and the beautiful river. Round and about we visited Barnard Castle, Bowes Museum and High Force Waterfall. The waterfall is a must, it was thick snow when we went and was quite a spectacular sight. Gainford itself was very quaint, a visit to the local pub, The Cross Keys was interesting and on a whole a place we could see ourselves 😉. Thank you very much to Bill, lots of local knowledge, nothing was too much trouble, and who knows we may be back sooner than we think!! Overall very recommended."

"We have just arrived back from a fabulous time at whispering waters. My sons age 2 and 5 really enjoyed it. So relaxing and a well needed break. Bill is lovely and the welcome pack was a lovely touch. We also left something behind and this was posted to us by the next day!! Went above and beyond. We loved it that much we booked up again for next year before we left 😍"

"Back from a lovely Christmas break at Whispering Waters. It was just what we needed to celebrate in a beautiful relaxing location in our family bubble during these strange (Covid) times. On arrival, a nice welcome pack was presented which included mince pies. Christmas music also playing to really set the break off on the right tone. We enjoyed some lovely walks into the local village with our Great Dane. Waking up Christmas morning on the side of the river certainly had that special feel about it, and spending time in the hot tub added that additional touch of luxury. The lodge is well laid out and cosy and the log burner adds to the cosy festive feel. The owner Bill was very welcoming and friendly and offered advise on the local area. We would highly recommend this holiday. Carl, Gemma, Grace and Joe."

"Arrived on Friday for our wkd stay and had a lovely time. The lodges are beautiful, very well equipped and cosy. It was our first wkd away with our two dogs and they both loved the log fire (as did we). The hot tub was lovely and perfect for a bit of stargazing on a night. Lovely surroundings, perfect for walks with the kids and dogs. Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be booking again in the future. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!"
